Allow me to introduce one of the main species of my series-thing:  the Heron [HEY-ron], native to the planet Heronaie [hey-RON-eye] in the Andromeda Galaxy (and yes, I named the species before I knew there was a bird called a heron).

This is getting long, so I'll hold off on the general history, culture, society and whatnot until next time.  Bear in mind, though, most of that hasn't been touched since I first came up with it ten-odd years ago, so a lot of it will need to be revamped...
